Now that you have decided that you cant live another minute without a pair of Fairysteps in your wardrobe you might find the information on this page useful before ordering....
Handcrafted in England using 100% Leather uppers and insoles with durable, cushioned, non slip Vibram soling. Available in a standard width fitting, in sizes UK 3 to 8.
The following select leather colours are available for Made to Order shoes. They have specifically been chosen to become good basic additions to a wide range of colour schemes! In order to keep upto date leather stocks, shoes are ONLY available in these colours!
And as to choosing..... well, after years of dressing like a circus clown, I personally think its best to stick to traditional earthy colours such as deep or mid browns, plum or black, with maybe a pair of all round summer shoes in nut..... but thats only my choice!

Your size and colour can be selected below each shoe description.
All shoes from the new 2010 collection are made to standardized UK measurements for each relevant size, in a standard (D) width fitting. Much like many manufacturers such as Clarks etc. But, unlike many High Street brands the materials they are made with and the shape of the shoe differs considerably! There will be no plastic or stiff artificial coverings whatsoever in your shoes and the quality leathers they are made from will naturally give with wear, meaning that once your shoes have moulded to your feet they will feel like gloves rather than shoes! I recommend choosing your usual shoe size when ordering, bearing in mind that if your shoes for any reason feel uncomfortable (perish the thought) they can be returned or exchanged (see terms & returns). The following conversion chart is offered as a guide only!

A brief description of each type of soling that I use is given below. Although I ONLY use the 'squidge' soling on bespoke shoe orders and 'wedge' for the boots, the other types of soling are sometimes used on stock shoes.
CHUNKY soling
This sole has an air cushioned heel for good shock absorbency, its lightweight and suprisingly durable (I've had these on a pair of mine for 5 years now without resoling!). These soles give a very chunky profile to a pair shoes.
|
|
SQUIDGE soling
This is a flexy, spongy 'I don't want to take them off' soling!!
Super back friendly with no heel, just as nature intended! Superb shock absorbency & flexibility on this sole so good for all styles. It's a VIBRAM soling material so top quality and very durable!
I use this soling on all of the Bespoke shoes.
Thick, flexible, non slip tread outer sole. Soling height is approximately 16mm. |
SLIM soling
A more delicate option suited to pretty much all the styles. Not super grippy so probably not the best choice for mud walkers! Having said that once worn smooth you could have textured half soles fitted by a cobbler, thus extending your beloveds use for many more years to come.
Soling height is approximately 15mm. |
WEDGE soling
These are always very popular!
Nice cushioning so they adapt well to the shape of your foot once worn in. Can be a little stiffer than the squidge initially.
I use these for bespoke boots.
Soling height is approximately 25mm. |
|
INSOLING leathers
Fairysteps shoes are made with leather insoling for odour free comfort. There is no plastic whatsoever inside your shoes to cause discomfort or perspiration. They mould to your feet like gloves! |
THREAD COLOURS
I use a variety of different coloured threads when shoemaking. I tend to find something that tones well with the leather colour BUT sometimes I may choose a contrast which is quite striking, like scarlet thread on black leather!
If you have found a pair of shoes or boots on the stock shoes page that you like you will need to take a few measurements to see if they will fit! Follow the instructions below carefully!
|

WIDEST PART measurement.
This picture shows how to take the top measurement which tells you your WIDEST PART measurement.
Simply measure over the foot at the widest part (not around the foot) touching the tape onto the floor at each side. The widest part should be from the base of the little toe joint to the base of the big toe joint.
Do not pull the tape tight! |
|
INSTEP measurement.
The instep is roughly halfway along your foot, take the measurement just like you did above for the widest part. Not all styles ask for or state this measurement. |
|
ANKLES some shoe styles, like IVY and boot styles will ask for an ankle measuement. Just measure around your ankle (just above the bone at about 10cms from the floor).
BOOTS - measure around the ankle at 10cms from the floor, again at 15cms, again at 20cms around the calf, and lastly at 25cms, phew! |
Remember leather does give with wear. Some styles such as slip ons and faeflips will need to be initially snug to allow for this. Take this into account when sizing up! Any queries, drop me a line by following the contact link.
Good luck! |
